Low-voltage switchgear for a steel mill in Kazakhstan
Gefeba was commissioned to manufacture several low-voltage switchgear units for the dust collection system at a large steel mill in Kazakhstan. The systems had to operate reliably under demanding industrial conditions while meeting high standards for performance, availability, and protection. Achieving the high IP54 protection rating was particularly challenging. As a result, the design focused primarily on heat generation within the switchgear and ensuring safe heat dissipation. At the same time, high rated currents of up to 4,000 A had to be safely handled on a continuous basis.
gefeba installed a total of three low-voltage switchgear systems, each with 27 panels and a rated current of 4,000 A, as well as another system with 12 panels and a rated current of 2,000 A. All systems were equipped with two separate power inputs that can be connected to each other via a coupler switch. For planning and manufacturing, gefeba relied on Rittal’s “Ri4Power” system, based on the TS 8 control cabinet system, as well as the Power Engineering software from the same manufacturer. To minimize heat generation within the main distribution panel as much as possible, the specialist planners developed a busbar system based on Rittal Flat-PLS, each with four busbars measuring 100 mm x 10 mm. Rittal Maxi-PLS busbars were also used for the feed-in, offering advantages in terms of connection technology.
The specially developed switchgear solution made it possible to implement a reliable and high-performance power distribution system for the steel mill’s dust collection system. The systems meet high standards for protection class, current-carrying capacity, and operational safety, and ensure stable performance in continuous industrial operation. The optimized heat dissipation and robust design also ensure high system availability under demanding environmental conditions.
